I have some old Barbie dolls, and where the ear rings were it turned green, How can I clean them, without messing up the dolls? Or can they be cleaned ?

my first try would be something very mild like Dawn dish soap.. or ivory soap. The green is from the metal in the earrings. Rubbing alcohol removes it off the backs of my older earrings I have. don’t know if this is the best answer but it is my only idea. hope it works keep me posted.. smile

Age and condition of dolls determine value so you need to be very careful. You might carefully try a q-tip dampened with water.
If this doesn’t work, try to contact a doll doctor in your area and have them take a look. Some questions simply need to have a physical look to know what to do.

I have treated many vintage Barbie dolls for the dreaded green ear disease! The very best way is to use Remove-Zit from Twin Pines of Maine (link below) – it is made specifically for that and does not damage the dolls. The “home remedy” is to use Benzoyl Peroxide (yes, the acne treatment) – it does work, but many times it also removes the color – so the green ear is replaced by white ear and I have found that it continues to lighten the area even after it is removed. With either product, put it on Barbie’ ear(s) and leave her in the sunshine (like a window sill) – clean the product off every few days and put on new. Eventually it will fade it off. Because the green is actually in the vinyl and not on it, nothing else will work.
